Sudbury Youth Orchestra performance tour to Germany, Austria & Czech Republic

Featuring Participation in 12th International Cantus MM Festival (Salzburg)

June 28 – July 7, 2010


Day 1 – Monday June 28 – Concert in Barrie, Ontario (performance day)

Day 2 – Tuesday June 29 – In Flight

Day 3 – Wednesday June 30 – Arrive Munich, Germany

Guided coach and walking tour of Munich, the capital of Bavaria. Tour the Marienplatz, which features the neo-gothic Rathaus with its world famous Glockenspiel, the old town, with its Frauenkirche Cathedral and the beautifully restored St. Peter’s Church and the celebrated Hofbrauhaus

Day 4 – Thursday July 1 - Salzburg, Austria

Guided tour of the BMW Headquarters (Bavarian Motorworks) Museum, Munich
Travel to Berchtesgaden, visit Salzbergwerk Salt Mine – guided tour in traditional miner’s garb and descend into the mine and into the fascinating world of salt
Arrive in Salzburg: Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Cantus MM Festival

Day 5 – Friday July 2 – Salzburg : visit Hohensalzburg Castle and Mozart’s Birthplace on lovely Getreidegasse
Rehearsal and performance: Cantus MM Gala Concert

Day 6 – Saturday July 3 – Salzburg
Take part in the Ecumenical Service at Salzburg Cathedral - Performance
Afternoon performance:  Mirabell Gardens
Enjoy the Cantus MM Finale/ Festival Farewell Dinner Party featuring Austrian cuisine and entertainment

Day 7 – Sunday July 4 – to Bayreuth, Germany (via Regensburg)
Tour at the Cathedral of St. Peter, home of the famous Regensburg Sparrows Choir
Walking tour of Old Bayreuth –Festspeilhaus

Day 8 – Monday July 5 – to Prague, Czech Republic
Morning visit to the Margravial Opera House, Bayreuth, the only baroque theatre in Germany, still in its original condition
Evening performance in Prague at the Concert Hall of St. Simon & Juda (a church now used as a concert hall and home of the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra)

Day 9 – Tuesday July 6 – Prague
Guided walking tour of Prague –the Mala Strana (Lesser Town), Stare Mesto (Old Town) and Nove Mesto (New Town) and Hradcany (Castle District) including Prague Castle
Farewell dinner of traditional Czech food, live music and folklore – at “U Marcanu”

Day 10 – Wednesday July 7 - Return home
