The Sudbury Youth Orchestra is the only musical organization in Sudbury offering musical instruction and experience in orchestral repertoire for the young. This award winning orchestra provides regular concerts, as well as special performances at Senior Citizen's Homes, Civic functions, churches and schools. Many of the advanced players of the orchestra also perform in other Northern Symphony Orchestras.
Social MosaicMembers of the Sudbury Youth Orchestra range in age from 11 to early 20's. They come from every walk of life and represent many ethnic groups. Of particular importance is the fact that well over 50% of the members are bilingual in Canada's two official languages.
Student/Player ImpactFormer members of the Sudbury Youth Orchestra have played with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, and the Congress of Strings Orchestra in the United States. They continue to make an impact at Canadian and American Universities in the field of Symphonic Music. Perhaps the most important influence of the Sudbury Youth Orchestra can be seen in the hundreds of graduates who continue to study music, play in ensembles and orchestras in their community, and who have even recorded their own CD's. They have become the audiences of Symphonic concerts while passing on their love of music to their peers, their children and their students.
The Sudbury Youth Orchestra has consistently been awarded gold to high gold for their performances in the Sudbury Kiwanis festival in recent years. For 2011 and 2012, they were invited to participate in the 2011 Ontario Provincial Finals Competition, placing second in 2011.
